My Name is Jørgen Leth. Art Moves #2
Back
Throughout more than five decades Jørgen Leth has contributed to a renewal of film, literature, music and journalism. The exhibition presents the first collective examination of Jørgen Leth’s extensive work; from the early experiments; of films on the heroic cyclists, literary legends and poetic travel films; to Leth’s poetry expressed both in literary shape as well as in connection with the highlights during the Tour de France; also Leth’s anthropologic examinations on the human drive; and finally his passion for Haitian art. Altogether, a testimony to an artist who masters the span between popular and the more experimental material.
Jørgen Leth (b. 1937 in Aarhus) studied literature and anthropology prior to his work from 1959 as a jazz- theatre- and film critic at several leading Danish papers. In the 1960s Leth took part in founding the experimental film group ABCinema and has since then created more than 40 films. This year Jørgen Leth will be celebrating his 50th anniversary as an author with an extensive publishing list. In addition Leth has contributed to a lot of music releases in collaboration with several musicians.
In connection with the exhibition there is a publication of 10 posters, which make up a catalogue. The posters are free of charge to the visiting guests. All other contents in the exhibition have been gathered from Jørgen Leth’s own texts and works.
The exhibition is the second in a series of ART MOVES exhibitions in GL STRAND, which examines aesthetic crossovers in a total of three exhibitions, generously supported by Nordea-fonden.
